DaVerse Lounge 2015

This past Thursday I was invited to photograph another DaVerse Lounge here in Dallas.  DaVerse Lounge is  an under 21 spoken word open mic and interactive art experience in collaboration with spoken word clubs and workshops across North Texas.

Our dear friend Will Richey is founder and the host for each show. Melody Memory, a 7 piece band led by Alejandro Perez Jr, serves as the house band, improvising behind the young poets, and playing original tunes. Art Love Magic provides artists, ranging from painters, to potters, to fire-painters, to face painters, to digital media artists, and they create live work and facilitate interactive stations for the teens. (Just in case anyone was wondering, I stole that write-up from their website - so I can't take credit!)

This last DaVerse Lounge hosted Teach for America teachers from around the country who came to see what a wonderful program Will and co. have created here in Dallas.  There were many artists from Dallas and a few from around the country including percussionist Jamal Mohamed, actors from the Cara Mia Theatre, Afro-Folk storytellers Du Shekere, and graffiti artist Jared Davies, who brought their art to display and some who created art live throughout the show.  If you ever have the opportunity to attend one of these shows, I highly recommend it.  It is an amazing and uplifting experience.

 Will getting the evening started.
